Navakanta Kumbang

Founder

Navakanta Kumbang was born and raised in a small village in Lakhimpur District, Assam. Growing up in a rural community taught him the true meaning of resilience, determination, and perseverance. Despite the challenges of rural life, he completed his education and chose to dedicate his life to making quality education accessible to children from underserved communities. He began his professional journey as a schoolteacher, serving for over five years before founding The Friendship School in Berbhanga and Naharbari. These community-based schools were established with the vision of ensuring that every child, regardless of their economic background, has access to quality education. He served as the Principal of the Berbhanga campus for over eight years, gaining firsthand experience of the challenges faced by rural families, particularly those living below the poverty line. During this time, he witnessed how even a nominal school fee of ₹300 could become an insurmountable barrier for many families. These experiences reinforced his belief that poverty, rather than a lack of potential, prevents many talented children from achieving their dreams. Driven by this conviction, he established Ajon Trust as a platform to expand his vision beyond individual schools and create sustainable change across rural communities. Through Ajon Trust, he works to address gaps in rural education, strengthen livelihood opportunities for vulnerable families, and empower communities to become self-reliant. Navakanta firmly believes that education is a right, not a privilege. His leadership is guided by a commitment to building an inclusive society where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream, free from the limitations imposed by poverty and circumstances. He welcomes opportunities to connect and collaborate with individuals, organizations, and institutions that share his vision of making education truly inclusive and creating lasting change in underserved communities.
