My name is “Navakanta Kumbang”, and I was born and raised in a small village in Lakhimpur District, Assam. Life in the village was never easy, but with determination and perseverance, I was able to complete my education. After my studies, I served as a school teacher for more than five years. With a vision to make education accessible in rural areas, I founded “The Friendship School” at Berbhanga and Naharbari, and served as the Principal of Berbhanga for over 12 years. Leading these community-based schools gave me deep insight into the struggles faced by villagers, especially when it came to educating their children. The objective of the Friendship Schools was always to transform lives and include every child in education, irrespective of their economic background. But the reality was harsh. The communities we served were mostly from below-poverty-line families. For many parents, even a small tuition fee of Rs. 300 was too big a burden, as they had no stable source of income. I saw bright young minds being deprived of learning opportunities, not because of lack of ability, but because of poverty and circumstances beyond their control. These experiences enriched my understanding of the rural reality and strengthened my conviction that education must be a right for every child—not a privilege. With this vision, I went on to establish “Ajon Trust”, to address these challenges more broadly.Through Ajon Trust, we are working to bridge the gaps in education, support families with livelihood opportunities, and empower communities to build a better future. I believe that real change is possible when we come together, and that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream without limitations.
